How I Work

There’s no magic to scaling a services business. There’s a set of levers, and the discipline to pull them in the right order and at the right time.

After doing this for 27 years, I’ve learned it usually comes down to four levers. Here’s how I think about each of them.

On the business, not just in it

I can run the day-to-day when that’s what you need, but the lasting value is building the machine, the processes, and the people, so the business runs stronger and depends less on any one person, leaving you free to lead instead of firefight.

The four levers

  • Utilization and margin. In a services business the math is unforgiving. I start with the numbers that actually drive profit, billable utilization and delivery margin, because everything else depends on them.
  • Capacity and people. Growth breaks companies that hire reactively, and hiring ahead of proven demand burns cash. I right-size the plan to real, sustained need, so your team can wear multiple hats through short ramps and you add headcount only when the demand is consistent.
  • Operating cadence. I install a disciplined operating rhythm, drawing on proven frameworks like EOS, so the business runs on a repeatable system. Fewer fire drills, more predictable results.
  • Leadership depth. A company that depends on one person can’t scale. I build and coach the layer of leaders underneath you so it doesn’t have to.

How an engagement works

  • 1.Diagnose. I get in and understand what’s actually happening, not what the status deck says.
  • 2.Prioritize. We fix the few things that matter most, in the right order, instead of boiling the ocean.
  • 3.Install. We put systems and cadence in place so the fixes hold after the pressure’s off.
  • 4.Coach. I build up your people so the company keeps getting better once I’m gone.

I leave you stronger than I found you.

Whether the engagement runs a few months or longer, the goal is the same: better systems, better leaders, and a business that leans less on any one person while continuing to scale.
